Game Info
"Powerslide" is a PC racing game developed by the now defunct Ratbag Games. It was released in Australia and North America towards the end of 1998. Despite the developers' financial problems, the game was received favorably at 1997's E3 gaming show, and gained positive reviews from the press a year later when it was finally released.
One of the unique features of "Powerslide" is its graphics, which were advanced for the time and allowed up to 300,000 polygons on-screen at once. The time and effort put into the game resulted in a great-looking, unique, and competitive PC racer that is well worth playing.
The post-apocalyptic atmosphere in which "Powerslide" is set is one of the game's most unique appeals. The backstory is based around a global environmental holocaust that had occured, killing 98% of the population. This resulted in the rich survivors forming enclaves underground, and the more feral, freakish survivors resorting to desperate behavior and violence above ground.
In the game's story, the Powersliding competitions were started by a "class" of freak survivors called the Ferals and sebsequently banned by the apprently more normal Corporates. The competition involves competitive racing on once-populated, now-desolate areas above ground. Close inspection of the abandoned, off-road tracks in-game reveals "wanted" posters calling for the arrest of Powersliders.
In "Powerslide", you'll be skimming over sand dunes, driving up the wall of a huge dam, flying off a huge jump in an abandoned mineshaft, and squealing around the tight corners of an old logging area.
